KONTRAST Mini Mix Series #1.2 – LUKE STEIN

For our second episode of the KONTRAST Mini-Mix Series #1 I would like to introduce you to Melbourne based DJ producer Luke Stein. He has been at home playing many different styles of music spanning over 15 years. Spending the good part of a decade dominating the hip-hop community he has since come in strong to Melbourne’s electronic underground scene jumping on board with event company Novel/Stranger and supporting artists like DVS1, Moodymann and Funkd’viod. This has led Luke to frequently play at venues like Revolver, Killing Time and Brown Alley and play at some of Melbourne’s bigger events at Circoloco and Maitreya festival.

What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?

Recondite – Tie In

This song take me on a journey to places I haven’t been yet and I think thats a big thing in life to alway be searching and discovering new things.

DJ Cam – Broadcasting Live

This one relates to my teenage years as a skateboarder and the memories this song brings back.

Nils Frahm – Ambre

It was hard to choose a song from Nils Frahm as they all speak to me so much, but the way this song can bring out so much feeling and passion is incredible and through out life Ive always been driven to be passionate about everything I do.

What was one of the best parties you’ve ever been to?

The Where?House party in the abandoned Argus Building in Melbourne CBD in 2012. To see a building of that scale get turned into a temporary venue for a party was amazing, and I like that the Argus has now been fully renovated and a party like that won’t happen there again. One of the amazing things about it was that it was all temporary.

If you could retire tomorrow, what would you do?

Find a nice bit of land in the countryside somewhere in Europe, build a small house. Fill it with musical instruments and live out my days making music with my amazing partner.

This second KONTRAST mini-mix starts off with a live jam by mr Stein himself using the Roland TR909, Critter and Guitari Pocket Piano and Technics 1210, followed by some well selected dubby and cruisy techno tracks. Sit back, relax and enjoy the journey!

Tracks list:

1. Live jam using Roland TR909, Critter and Guitari Pocket Piano and Technics 1210
2. Zum Goldenen Schwarm – Schwelle – Forum III
3. Recondite – Yeild – Plangent 002
4. Prince Of Denmark – Soulfood – Giegling
