Piknic Electronik is back for its second season in Melbourne this coming summer. After last years success, we can only imagine what this summer is going to be like. Starting on January 17th there will be 12 weekly Sunday day parties from this international outdoor event that started in Montreal. This year they’re taking another step in Australia and is brining the party to Sydney as well.
The first line up has been revealed and yesterday they announced an additional international DJ to the Melbourne bill. Not only will we have the world wide famous Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson, he is also bringing along is son Dantiez Saunderson to start off the summer season with a bang. This musical picnic adventure will be back at The Paddock behind Federation Square with local support acts from Matt Radovich, Myles Mac and Citipower DJs.
Respected and acknowledged around the world as one of the three Detroit Techno innovators, Kevin Saunderson is a legend in his own right, who has helped to reshape the future of Dance music as we know it! Starting out as a DJ, Kevin soon developed new skills that led him into producing records, which he released on his own label, KMS Records. Kevin’s biggest achievement (to date) and his most commercially recognised project has been INNER CITY, which is one of the world’s most influential dance acts. The duo have proven they are one of dance music’s greatest and they’re justifiably proud of a healthy career spanning early pioneering hits like “Big Fun” and “Good Life”. Move forward 20+ years and Kevin still moves dancefloors around the world to his unmistakable Motor City Sound! He now holds parties around the world called Origins, showcasing the sound of Detroit’s past, present and future. We shall be forever thankful for this great man’s contribution, to the sound which we all adore.
Dantiez Deandre Saunderson, Detroit born and bred, middle son of ‘Master Reese,’ ‘Elevator of Techno,’ Kevin Saunderson and accomplished singer, performer and songwriter, Ann Saunderson (Inner City and The Reese Project). Dantiez (pronounced Don Tezz) has only just begun his musical journey. Growing up in Detroit, the “Motor City” surrounded by the sounds of Techno, House, Soul and Jazz is proving to be the solid foundation that he will need as he ventures into what looks like a long and rich musical career producing, songwriting and DJing. As a child, it was not unusal for Dantiez to hear sounds ranging from those emanating from his multi talented parents to the original styling’s of Carl Craig, to the bleeps and rhythms of Ritchie Hawtin, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Static Revenger (Dennis White), Mike Clark and the list goes on and on to Seth Troxler and Claude Von Stroke and so many more that are part of the Detroit musical tapestry.
