Starting out collecting hard Drum & Bass, jungle and broken beats, Caspian‘s sound is dominated by complicated rhythms and interesting. For the past 5 years he’s been playing in the Melbourne arena where he spins all kinds of house and techno as well as running the parties Backyard and Super Enjoy and now co-conspirator of Kontrast.

Not shy to play various feels inside a set, Caspian enjoys making the time count. Hosting the weekly radio show “Super Enjoy” on TRNSMT and producing new music on a regular basis, his focus lies on freshness and originality. You can always expect a well thought-out and intelligently crafted set from Caspian, no matter where or when. This guy is a true lover of performance and is always ready to deliver and please his crowd.

Are you old-fashioned?

When I think of what is meant by old-fashioned when we say it today; it’s a reference to a 50’s idealistic, Christian and chivalrous time of expected respect and values based on a sense of “status quo” and middle class comfort (both of lifestyle and mind). So my answer is very much “no”. I think you should break every rule just to see what it feels like, and you’ll work out pretty quickly what works for you.

What song would you say best sums you up?

Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy) – “Antagonism” from Joya.

This song explains how I feel about people. It’s a poem about discontent and freedom all in one. Lyrically complicated and deeply honest, a musing of longing and contentment. It’s a dichotomy explained.

Do you believe in destiny, fate or free will?

No God, no karma, no cosmic confluence. We are all a immaculate spectacular mess of egocentric atoms. We are lucky. Techno.

Please take a deep breath before you press play. This mix might start quite dreamy and ambient, but don’t be fooled, it will soon enough turn into a crazy mayhem of techno and broken beats in an ecstatic, sonic whirlwind. Please let me present to you the KONTRAST Mini-Mix #2.2 by Caspian.

KONTRAST is a collective of creative spirits who loves to combine raw sounds, dark, thumping beats and intense, edgy musical experiences with extraordinary visual elements in an experimental and innovative way. We want to build something new, colourful and unforgettable and to explore how sounds, shapes and visual imprints together can create something bigger than ourselves, and a different state of mind. The second instalment of KONTRAST will happen on January 15 at Sub Club, and running up to the event there will be a mini mix series featuring each artist with a mini interview to get to know them better.

MINI-MIX Series #2

#2.1 – December 23rd – Julian Castles
#2.2 – December 30th – Caspian
#2.3 – January 6th – Chiara Kickdrum
