Moving fast into the new year we have another full month of new music releases to look back on. January is delivering some great minimal techno tunes as well as some deeper tech house tracks that I have managed to pin down. There are both original creations along with a few remixes that really hit my chest.
Ilario Alicante’s track ‘Temporary’ on Drumcode’s A-Sides Volume 4 compilation is a floor stomping techno track with wild 909 hi-hats that has just gotten better and better for each time I listen to it. The Italian born producer and DJ Ilario is based in Berlin and part of the Cocoon Recordings family: a man constantly on the move who recently played a few gigs in Argentina. Second on the chart is the track is a remix by Matt Sassari of ‘Up To You’ made by The Reactivitz, creating a deep bass filling soundscape that fits well with the majestic but funky vocal sample.
Next up is Kamera with ‘MF15’ released on Phantasy. This track is a fascinating techno track with bopping acid elements and a raw purring bass line melody. Kevin Over released LY on Noir Music which is a nice and groovy techno song with 80’s and 90’s Detroit and Chicago underground influences. Following up on the 5th spot is ‘Shinto’ by Eagles & Butterflies aka Chris Barratt. This one is also on Noir Music and has been approved by Dixon, a fun tech house track with a smooth, boppy bass line that surely will be played many times around dance floors the next coming months.
Clapton’s track The Only Thing got a nice rework by Guti with analog percussions and dreamy vibes along with a driving bass line. Huxley released yet another amazing creation on Aus Music called ‘Widow’. The track starts warm and peaceful but then turns into a more heavy duty deal with a sharp electro bass cutting through and subby kick drums. Ambvivalent’s latest releaseon Cocoon Recordings called ‘Daylights’ really caught my ear too. It’s a great track to play half way through the night when you want to get into darker shades of tech house and techno.
On place number 9 we have a track on IAMT made by Italian Alessandro Spaiani called ‘The Reason’. This is a well produced and driving techno track that has that outdoor atmosphere vibe going on with great breaks and build ups along with that moody vibrating bass. Ending January’s Top New Releases is Marc Romboy’s Roland Orchestra remix of OCH – Time Tourism on Systematic Recordings. Mr Romboy has pumped up the groovy house vibe in this track and given it a fuller sound but still keeping it mesmerizing and spacey.
