Laura King is known for captivating the dance floor with her seamless flow of early techno and hard trance. She creates raved-up sets that makes you re-live the early underground days in a way that’s both innovating and nostalgic.

Her name has been popping up on many popular techno events in Melbourne lately and she’s also part of the Konnekt’d crew. You can tell she is passionated and genuine about her DJing by the way she performs and meets the crowd. Laura’s authenticity is undoubtedly sending her in the right direction so be sure to keep your eye on this one.

We know you love techno, but what specifically about techno gives you the drive to play it?

I spend a lot of my time hunting and listening to techno, usually being drawn to the earlier stuff and tracks I have never heard before. I like to think that the style of music I like is quite unique to what is being played at the moment yet it’s still feels familiar and relevant. I get so excited when I hear something that I know will sound awesome in one of my sets, and that gives me drive to play it because 1; I love listening to the music I find and 2; I love seeing everyones reaction when they hear something they haven’t heard before.

How has your DJing progressed from where you started to now?

When I first started DJing the music I was captivated by was actually very much the same as what I still love today. However over the last year and half I have played a bit of everything, trying to fit into the time slot and event that I was booked for which has been super fun and a great lesson. But I am now at a point where I get booked for the style that I am known for, and I have progressed to a place where i can always stay true to myself.

What DJs do you look up to and feel inspired from? Can you list your favourite locals and/or internationals and why?

Favoutite international DJ is Nina Kraviz – the main reason being is I genuinely love the style of music that she plays. I also look up to her as an idol of mine and I aspire to be at her level one day, and locally I am inspired by many many people but to name one that really inspires me is Lask. She has such a passion for music and she doesn’t let anything else get in her way, and she follows her heart and that is truly admirable. She is going to do great things.
